The better the sulfonation is, the better the water solubility is. The lignosulfonate with high degree of sulfonation dissolves well regardless of acid and base. If the degree of sulfonation is low, the solubility must be poor. Some cheap lignosulfonates also contain a lot of alkaline lignin, which affects the solubility of lignin. Therefore, lignin with a high pH value has poor dispersibility due to its high alkaline lignin content.

The category and content of salt will affect the dispersion effect of lignosulfonate, the general pH of sodium salt is high (about 10), the pH of calcium salt is slightly lower, the dispersion suspension performance of sodium salt is slightly better, but not obvious. The amount of salt in lignosulfonate will affect the shear viscosity, stability, dissolution rate and dispersion of the product.

The content of impurities such as sugar and fiber will affect the properties and dispersibility of lignosulfonate to a certain extent. Too high sugar will cause moisture absorption caking, which will cause lignin to harden for a long time, and the dispersibility and dissolution rate will be affected.
