The activated carbon is a kind of carbon-containing material with a black appearance. A class of microcrystalline carbon materials with developed internal pore structure, large surface area and strong adsorption capacity. The principle of processing organic waste gas by activated carbon adsorption is at a certain temperature and pressure,when the activated carbon contacts with the organic waste gas, the organic waste gas adsorbs in the pore of the activated carbon.

Work principle

The adsorption of the organic compounds for toluene, xylene, styrene  in the organic waste gases, when gas and solid phase begin to contact is the main process. Among the micropores of the activated carbon, there are three kinds of macropores--big, medium and micro pore, and only the micropore is the main force of the adsorption. The activated carbon has microcrystalline structure, the arrangement of microcrystals is completely irregular, and there are micro-holes in the crystal. (radius< 20 (angstrom) =10-10 m), transitional span (radius 20-1000), big hole (radius 1000-100000), which makes the activated carbon with big internal surface area, and the specific area is 500-1700m2/g. So it determines that the activated carbon has good adsorptivity, which can adsorb metal ions, harmful gases, organic pollutants, pigments and so on. Industrial application of activated carbon also requires high mechanical strength and good wear resistance, its structure strives to be stable, and small energy required for adsorption, so as to facilitate regeneration. The activated carbon is used for decolorization, deodorization, gas separation, solvent recovery and air conditioning of grease, beverage, food and drinking water. It is also used as catalyst carrier and adsorbent for gas mask. As time goes on, the concentration of adsorbate in the pore of activated carbon granually increases, and the adsorption rate slows down until the activated carbon reaches its saturation state. At this time, the speed of adsorption and desorption reach a dynamic equilibrium, and the transfer between gas and solid is equal. The activated carbon needs desorption and regeneration at this time.
