How to Install an Automotive Air Conditioning Compressor
New or refurbished AC compressor
AC manifold gauge set

Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is turned off.
Recover Refrigerant
Use a refrigerant recovery machine to safely remove the refrigerant from the AC system. This step is crucial to prevent environmental harm and ensure safety.
Remove the Old Compressor
Locate the AC compressor, usually driven by a serpentine belt.
Loosen the belt tensioner and remove the serpentine belt from the compressor pulley.
Disconnect the electrical connectors and refrigerant lines from the compressor. Cap the lines to prevent contamination.
Unbolt the compressor from its mounting bracket and carefully remove it.
Prepare the New Compressor
Drain the oil from the old compressor and measure the amount. Add the same amount of new refrigerant oil to the new compressor.

Install the New Compressor
Position the new compressor on the mounting bracket and secure it with bolts.
Reconnect the refrigerant lines and electrical connectors.
Reinstall the serpentine belt onto the compressor pulley and adjust the tensioner.

Use an AC manifold gauge set and vacuum pump to evacuate the system. This removes air and moisture, which can affect performance.
Recharge the System
Add the recommended amount of refrigerant to the system according to the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications.
Use a leak detection kit to check for any refrigerant leaks.
Test the System
Start the engine and turn on the AC to ensure the compressor is functioning properly.
Check for cool air from the vents and listen for unusual noises.
