When the temperature of the liquid in the cooling system increases, the liquid expands, causing the pressure to increase. The pressure tank cover is the only outlet for releasing pressure, so the setting of the spring on the cover determines the maximum pressure of the cooling system. When the pressure reaches 1.05 kg/cm², the pressure valve will be flushed, allowing the coolant to flow out of the cooling system. The coolant enters the bottom of the overflow box through the overflow pipe. This device keeps the air out of the system. When the radiator cools, a vacuum is formed in the cooling system, which will open another spring-loaded valve, and then re-absorb water from the bottom of the overflow box to fill the drained water.
