Vienna Café Chair Round back chair The originator of modern furniture design -Black
In cafes almost all over the world, you can find the "hot style" round back wooden chair. It is called one of the most successful mass production products in the world, and also the originator of modern furniture design. Since its launch in 1859, it has been mass-produced more than 50 million pieces. It's called the Vienna Coffee Chair, or Thonet No. 14, and it's called the Chair of Chairs.
Vienna cafe chair, gradually developed into a series of products. They marked the beginning of industrial production, but also marked the germination of modern design. It is known as the "chair of chairs"; The master of modernist design Le Corbusier praised: "There has never been an artificial object with such a beautiful form and yet so accurately processed."
Wood cutting: machining beech wood into rods. The short wood fibers of beech are particularly suitable for the processing of bentwood.
High pressure steam: The wood is steamed at temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Celsius. It is steamed under pressure for about six hours. Because of the high pressure, the steam is forced into the wood until it is saturated. The heat makes the beech pole extremely elastic, which is an important prerequisite for curving wood.
Making shape: now start bending the wood: the pipe bender bends the wood 70 degrees inward on both sides. To create the subtle external curve of the hind legs, the end of the pole is slightly bent in a certain direction, and the wood is then fixed in the bending die. The famous Viennese coffee chair (No. 14) requires at least two pipe benders and the back of the hair (No. 209) requires four workers to make it.
Preparation for bending: the wood is now placed in a special mold. A steel strip is attached to the outside of the wood to support the wood and prevent the wood fibers from breaking.
Drying: In order for the bent backrest to retain its new form, the wood in the bent mold needs to be left in the drying chamber for two days. After drying, only a small amount of moisture will remain in the wood, at which point the wood can be removed from the mold.
Final touches: After this production step, the processing of the backrest will continue. First, sandpaper the wood until it is as soft as velvet. It is then assembled into a finished chair with other components. Finally, the wood is dyed or painted.
