AL-6XN® (UNS N08367) is a low-carbon, high-purity, nitrogen-bearing "super-austenitic" stainless alloy that was initially designed to be seawater resistant. However, it has since been discovered that the AL-6XN alloy is highly resistant to a wide range of extremely corrosive environments. This makes it a more cost-effective alternative to more expensive nickel-based alloys due to its superior strength and corrosion resistance compared to conventional duplex stainless steels.
The AL-6XN alloy is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. It also possesses high ductility and impact strength. As a result, UNS N08367 is widely used in applications such as seawater heat exchangers, chemical process tanks and pipelines, offshore oil and gas production equipment, and other seawater-related applications.
In addition to its excellent corrosion resistance, the AL-6XN alloy also has exceptional resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and general corrosion in a variety of acidic and alkaline environments. This makes it a versatile alloy that can be used in many different industries, including chemical processing, pulp and paper, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals.
The AL-6XN alloy is available in various forms, including seamless and welded tubes, pipes, fittings, and flanges. It is also available in different sizes and wall thicknesses, making it suitable for various applications. With its exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and versatility, the AL-6XN alloy is an excellent choice for many different industrial applications.
