Double glazing / insulated glass is made of two or more pieces of tempered glass glazing sheets which might be low e or reflective glass or normal float colored glass and use sealant gumming and aluminum spacers which was filled with desiccant together. Insulated glass/ Hollow glass/IGU/Double glazing glass with the perimeter of the spacer that gets in contact with the glass is properly sealed with primary and secondary sealants to ensure it with air/argon tight.An Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) combines many panes of glass with spacer material and gas sealed in a frame into one window system. The multiple panes of glass and gas add extra barriers to heat and cold transfer. Old industry standard practice was to fix one pane of glass into a frame to make a window, so the only barrier between your home and the outside environment was a single sheet of glass. We know this has no insulation value. In fact, when researching windows, you may find that it’s harder to find single pane units for this very reason. They still exist, but they don’t meet energy standards and they shouldn’t be used on your home.
Glass: Single glass thickness can be 3mm to 12mm, Jinyao Glass process top grade float glass.
Spacer: Insulated glass utilize air or argon spacer to separate the glass panes where they meet at the edges. These spacers usually have some sort of desiccant to absorb moisture between the panes and prevent fogging.
Glass sealant: Insulated glass need to be sealed twice, the first seal is usually Butyl Adhesive, for the second seal, Jinyao Glass use quality structural silicone sealant for the facade glass and silicone sealant for the window glass.
Molecular sieves: The function of molecular sieves is to absorb moisture from the air in the argon/air spacer. Molecular sieves should not be exposed to air for more than 4 hours, if they are exposed for more than 4 hours, they will absorb moisture from the air and the glass will fog. Thus, Jinyao Glass finish production within 4 hours to avoid fog.
When it comes to the semi-stick glass curtain wall or glass skylight, stepped insulated glass, or offset insulated glass is used. Silicon sealant can be applied on the glass edge to make it keep the uniform color as glass sealant.
Perforated IGU
Insulated glass can also be used in point-supported glass facades instead of tempered glass and laminated glass. To fix the spider and claw safety, we can supply insulated glass with perforations, sealed with aluminum rings for better and safe installation.
1. Optical Properties The visible light transmittance of insulated glass systems is normally in the range of 70-80% and the visible light reflectance is in the range of 10-48%. 2. Thermal Properties The U-value is effectively lowered by double glazing units and can be further reduced by filling of inert gases like argon gas. 3. Acoustical Insulation Insulated glass has a good soundproof function, can reduce noise by more than 30 dB. 4. Condensation The dew point of Eliter insulating glass is below -65 ºC which guarantees no condensation formation under normal applications. 5. Sealing The aluminum spacer is automatically curved and formed with the fewest joints and dual seals are applied, which ensures excellent sealing characteristics and a long application lifetime.
IGU is mainly used on buildings that need heating, air conditioning, noise prevention, or condensation, and no direct sunlight or special light. It is widely used in residential, hotels, office buildings, schools, hospitals, shops, and other places where indoor air conditioning is required. It can also be used for doors and windows of trains, cars, ships, freezers, etc.
