Stab-in Casing Float Collar And Float Shoe API or As required
The stab-in float collar and shoe technique is a sophisticated method employed in drilling operations to effectively cement larger diameter casings. This approach entails directly inserting the drill pipe into either the float shoe or collar, facilitating the pumping of cement through the drill pipe until it reaches the surface. To ensure precise placement, a wiper dart can be used to push the cement to the bottom of the drill pipe. Subsequently, the drill pipe is lifted, circulated to ensure proper distribution of the cement, and then extracted from the wellbore.
It is vital to emphasize that when implementing the stab-in float collar and shoe method, significant plugs are necessary to separate the cement from the drilling mud. These plugs, along with any cement present in the casing, require drilling out. This technique is specifically designed for cementing larger diameter casings that are installed using drill pipes. Given the substantial displacement volume associated with these larger casings, special considerations must be undertaken throughout the cementing process.
The Stab-in cementing technique is a highly efficient method that reduces displacement volume and contamination during drilling operations. By utilizing a smaller diameter inner string of drill pipe, it displaces cement effectively, saving valuable time.
To minimize the need for drill-out of cement within the large casing, the Stab-in Shoe incorporates a plunger valve and displacement fluid in the drill pipe. This ensures precise displacement control and enhances cement quality. The reduced cement/mud interface area and high flow velocity within the drill pipe minimize contamination, while the short pumping time eliminates the need for cement retarders.
One of the key benefits of the Stab-in method is its ability to reduce cement volume. Unlike conventional displacement methods that require excess cement calculations, the Stab-in method simplifies the process by only considering the volume of the drill pipe as excess cement, eliminating the need for large plugs.
By enhancing displacement accuracy and reducing the need for drill-out, the Stab-in method significantly reduces rig time. This leads to minimized circulating, pumping, and drill-out times, ultimately improving overall operational efficiency.
Another advantage of the Stab-in method is its casing protection capabilities. The cementing pressures are confined to the drill pipe, similar to a squeeze job, providing an additional safeguard to the casing.
The Stab-in cementing equipment is available in a wide range of sizes, from 4-1/2" to 36". Additionally, the Stab-in cement Float Shoe & Collar can be customized with various combinations, including Double Valve, to meet specific requirements.
