Stainless steel grade 304 is an austenite stainless steel that is the most widely used and versatile of the various grades of stainless steel. It is a part of the T300 series stainless steels with a chromium content of 18% and nickel content of 8%, percentages that give it the designation of 18/8 stainless steel. The most notable characteristic of stainless steel 304 is its ability to be deep drawn, which means that it can be formed by compressive forces that bend, cut, and twist the metal.
stainless steel 316 is generally composed of 16 to 18% chromium, 10 to 14% nickel, 2 to 3% molybdenum, and a small percentage of carbon. Adding molybdenum to stainless steel 316 increases its corrosion resistance compared to other grades of stainless steel. The addition of other alloys further enhances its properties.The properties and characteristics of stainless steel 316 make it the second-most widely used stainless steel grade after stainless steel 304. It is used in corrosive environments such as chemical plants, refineries, and marine equipment.
Alloy 347 (S34700) is stabilized stainless steel plate which offers as its main advantage an excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion following exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range from 800 to 1500°F (427 to 816°C). Alloy 347 stainless steel plate is stabilized by the addition of columbium and tantalum. 347H is the higher carbon composition form of Alloy 347 and demonstrates improved high temperature and creep properties.
Stainless Steel 348 contains 18-20% chromium and 9-13% nickel. It also contains trace amounts of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. These elements come together to create an alloy that is resistant to corrosion and rust and has excellent heat resistance capabilities. This makes it an ideal material for use in extreme environmental conditions, such as in high-temperature industrial settings or areas with high humidity or moisture levels.
