Oil casing is a steel pipe used to support the wall of oil and gas wells to ensure the normal operation of the entire oil well after drilling and completion. Several layers of casing are used for each well according to different drilling depths and geological conditions. Cement cementing should be used after the casing is run down the well. It is different from tubing and drill pipe and cannot be reused. It is a one-time consumable material. Therefore, the consumption of casing accounts for more than 70% of all oil well pipes.

Casing can be divided into: conduit, surface casing, technical casing and oil casing according to the usage.

Classification:

Different types of casings used in the oil extraction process:
Surface oil casing: protects the well from contamination by shallow water and shallow gas layers, supports wellhead equipment and maintains the weight of other layers of casing.
Technical oil casing: separate the pressure at different levels so that the drilling fluid can flow normally and protect the production casing, and install anti-burst devices, leak-proof devices and tail pipes in the drilling.
Reservoir Oil Casing: Leads oil and gas from subsurface reservoirs. Used to protect drilling and layer drilling mud. When oil casing is produced, the outer diameter is usually 114.3 mm to 508 mm.
According to SY/T6194-96 "petroleum casing", there are two types of oil casing and its packaging: short-threaded casing and its coupling, and long-threaded casing and its coupling.

Application:

Oil casing is a large-diameter pipe that acts to fix the wall or bore of oil and gas oil wells. The casing is inserted into the wellbore and fixed with cement to help the wellbore separate the rock formations and prevent the wellbore from collapsing, while ensuring the circulation of drilling mud to facilitate drilling and mining.
