The first step is to fill the ultrasonic cleaner tank with a safe, biodegradable ultrasonic cleaning bath, which can be formulated by adding a 1-ounce tube of CLN-LR012 per gallon of water. After rinsing the tools with water, they are placed into the unit’s mesh basket. The unit is turned on, degassed by operating for about 30 minutes (or 10 minutes if the unit has a Degas mode), and the basket is lowered into the bath for the actual ultrasonic cleaning process.

Rapid, thorough, quiet cleaning is accomplished by ultrasonic energy. This is produced by the unit’s ultrasonic generator and transmitted into the ultrasonic cleaning bath by transducers mounted on the bottom of the tank. The process creates billions of microscopic bubbles that implode with great force when they come into contact with the implements being cleaned. The action is called cavitation. It blasts dirt and contaminants away without damaging the implements. Bubbles penetrate the tiniest cracks and crevices that are virtually impossible to clean by manual soaking and scrubbing. After being cleaned the implements are rinsed, sanitized and stored.

The intuitive control panel on the ultrasonic unit allows operators to set ultrasonic cleaning time and bath temperature in accordance with the load being cleaned. SKymen units have knobs that are turned to the appropriate time and temperature settings. Despite their simple appearance, these units are fully microprocessor controlled. Other manufacturers offer analog and/or digital controls and displays.
