ASTM A387 Grade 12 is a specification for pressure vessel plates, alloy steel, chromium-molybdenum. This grade of steel is designed for use in welded boilers and pressure vessels, which are designed for elevated temperature service. The material has excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance, making it ideal for use in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, as well as in power generation and other high-temperature applications.
Grade 12 is one of the most commonly used grades of the ASTM A387 specification. It is available in two classes, Class 1 and Class 2. Class 1 plates are available in the normalized and tempered condition, while Class 2 plates are available in the quenched and tempered condition. The difference between the two classes lies in the addition of vanadium in Class 2 plates, which improves the toughness and high-temperature strength of the material.
