Projects-Upgrading a barn for grain storage with drying floor
Our client runs a farm where he grows wheat, barley and some oilseed rape and also rents out 50 acres of grassland for sheep. We originally built a new barn for him in 2010. Then he contacted us about upgrading it to use as a grain store.
A modern streamlined grain storage system that saves time and looks smarter
“I approached them because they had done a good job on the original building a couple of years earlier – after two fires in 50 years, the grain barn hadn’t been looking its best and they replaced it with a new one. Now we knew we wanted an air floor and were rather erring towards metal. They offered me advice about the different options and arranged for me to look at another metal-based grain storage system they’d installed. I found it fascinating. It seemed to tick all the boxes and, talking to the farmer, they were very happy with it.

For budget reasons, we did part of the work ourselves but we built the vast majority and mediated between the design and the fitting. It was the dovetailing [into our own work] that really helped. Most of them have worked on farms previously and understood the idiosyncrasies.
