The ASTM A242 specification is the standard specification for high strength low alloy structural steel for structural members where weight savings and atmospheric corrosion resistance are important. The main alloying elements of A242 corten steel plates are chromium nickel and copper with added phosphorous which gives it excellent self protecting qualities.
Application: A242 Type 1 steel is often used in housing structures, construction industry and freight cars. A242 Type 2 steel is used majorly in urban furnishing, passenger ships or cranes.
