Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2DN ControlNet-to-Device Net Linking Device
The 1788-CN2DN linking device from Allen-Bradley is an industrial Controlnet to Devicenet linking device in the 1788 linking device series. It can be installed with a 24 Volts DC rated power supply and a mounting base that is either a DIN rail made out of yellow-chrome steel with a zinc-plate coating or another mounting base with similar specifications. The cable that the 1788-CN2DN linking device uses to connect to the Devicenet network should not be connected to the device or disconnected from it while it is powered up because this can cause a dangerous electrical arc. The 1788-CN2DN linking device connects to the Devicenet network with either a 10-pin linear connector that is included with it or with another type of linear connector that is not included such as a 5-pin linear connector or linear to micro connector.
The Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2DN linking device cannot display its own status code, so the users must check its status codes on the display of the Devicenet scanner module that it is connected to. This scanner module can also be used to troubleshoot the 1788-CN2DN linking device if necessary. This linking device can be powered from multiple sources as long as the voltage that they provide does not exceed the specified isolation voltage rating of the linking device. The 1788-CN2DN linking device should also always be protected from ESD. This device uses DC power in the 18 to 30 Volts DC range, and this power must come from a power supply that is separate from the Devicenet network’s power supply. The complete setup with the 1788-CN2DN linking device includes the linking device, the Devicenet connector, the power connector, 121-Ohm resistors, and end anchors.
