Working Principle of Ultrafiltration Water Treatment System

The similarities and differences between ultrafiltration water treatment system and reverse osmosis water treatment system:
Both ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis are pressure-driven membrane separation technologies. The application range of the two is crossed, and it is difficult to demarcate; the membranes used are semi-permeable membranes with asymmetric microporous structure, with the same membrane materials and similar membrane preparation methods. There are similar mechanisms and functions; the separation of the two is a process in which the solvent passes through the membrane and the solute is retained by the membrane.
The main difference between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis is: ① The structure of the membrane is different. Generally, the ultrafiltration membrane is loose, the permeable flux is large, and the salt removal rate is low, while the reverse osmosis membrane is dense, the permeable flux is small, and it has selective permeability. ②The permeation mechanism of the membrane is different. The separation of the ultrafiltration membrane is mainly sieving, while the separation process of the reverse osmosis membrane is also accompanied by complex physical and chemical effects. ③ Different working pressures, the ultrafiltration process can be carried out at a lower operating pressure, and the operating pressure range is generally 0.1-0.5MPa, while reverse osmosis must apply a higher external pressure in order to overcome the osmotic pressure, and its operating pressure range is 2. ~10MPa. ④ Different solutes are retained. Ultrafiltration retains macromolecular solutes with a molecular weight greater than 500. The reverse osmosis generally separates sugars, salts and other substances with a relative molecular weight below 500.
