Mainly we have “liners” and “shaders”. Liner needles are combined it all together form a circular structure in different quantities, and are often frapped at the taper so that the pins are very close together. Shader needles can also be grouped together in round models, as well as fan out into what we call Magnums or “Mags”.
Many individual needles are grouped together and soldered to form what we call the“tattoo needle”, the needle is then soldered onto what is called “needle bar”, which is only a long stainless steel wire with a loop on the end which can be installed to the part of the tattoo machine that makes the up-and-down motion. Then the whole needle is cleaned and disinfected and then packaged
The needle bar is placed within the “tube”, a stainless steel (re-useable) or rubber and plastic (disposable) device which provides a hand grip for the machine, that allows the needles to function within and through it, and also to provide a storing for the pigment.
Most people know that, in fact, the more needles we use, the less harm we have! Tiny lining needles seem to be the most severely injured, feeling a bit like a razor cut, while larger, looser colored needle sets are more likely to feel a milder, more diffuse burning sensation.
Tattoo artists can use a series of different needle sets to create their own tattoo style. It is a true tiny stainless steel paint brush. What kind of artwork artists choose is a preference.
