Introduction
Fishtail splint (track joint splint) is commonly known as splint, also called fishtail plate, which plays a connecting role at the track joint. Divided into light rail, heavy rail and lift rail. The fishplate is a connecting fastener used for the connection between the track and the track.
Fish plate appearance quality:
(1) The rail after rolling shall be straight and shall not have significant bending and torsion. For the local bending and torsion of the light and heavy rails and the amount of their correction, the inclination of the rail end faces shall not exceed the standard.
(2) The surface of the rail should be clean and smooth, and there must be no defects such as cracks, crusting or scratches; the end faces must not have shrinkage marks and interlayers. The extent of the defects and geometrical quantities allowed for the overall surface of the light and heavy rails shall not exceed the standard.

The state of interaction between the fishplate and the rail, the actual load of the fishplate and the material of the fishplate determine the location, time, method and rate of damage to the fishplate, and the interaction state mainly affects the origin of the crack. Location and time, loading conditions and material conditions more determine the way and rate of crack propagation. When the crack starts from the mouth of the fishplate, the tensile stress is small, so the cracking and expansion are more affected by the material; Crack initiation and propagation are more affected by the load.
Each rail application is different and must be engineered to maximise efficiency and lifespan, therefore the selection of the correct rail is critical to achieving this end.
