Coupler yoke is an important part of coupler buffer device. It is a key part to install slave plate and buffer and bear the traction force of train. The train is grouped after the railway vehicles coupled by the couplers. The coupler hook is connected with the coupler yoke through the coupler yoke pin. When the vehicle is towed by the traction force, the force transmission process is: coupler → coupler yoke pin → coupler yoke → buffer → slave plate → front slave plate seat → traction beam; When the vehicle is impacted, the transmission process of force is: coupler → coupler pin → coupler yoke → slave plate → buffer → rear slave plate seat → traction beam.
Coupler yokes could be manufactured by casting and forging. The material is Grade E steel. Forged coupler yoke is an upgraded product of cast coupler yoke, which is mainly suitable for heavy-duty trains above 70t. The forging coupler yoke is processed by die forging and tempering after welding to have better strength and service performances. The fatigue strength of forging types can be increased by 80% ~ 200% to avoid porosity and shrinkage which might occur for casting type. Through ultrasonic flaw detection and magnetic particle flaw detection, all performance indexes of coupler yokes meet the standard requirements, ensuring the vehicle transportation performance and driving safety.
