The main selling point of luxury vinyl is its ability to simulate natural materials which makes it a great alternative to both hardwood and stone. Additionally, it’s also produced to mimic its natural counterparts in shape, too. Luxury vinyl is either produced as 100% vinyl or a vinyl/limestone composite and those products that are made to look like stone will often contain natural minerals.
Luxury vinyl is comprised of four layers. The top layer is aluminum oxide which prevents scratching and scuffing. Then comes a clear film which will protect against rips and tears. Third is the design layer, which is where visual design comes in. Finally, the backing layer, which is 90% of the product, is what gives luxury vinyl it’s structure and solidity.
