It is a greenish-blue solid that occurs naturally as the mineral malachite. Copper carbonate basic is synthesized industrially by the reaction of copper salts with carbonate or bicarbonate ions in the presence of hydroxide ions. Boile in an alkali carbonate solution yields brown copper oxide, And decompose into black copper oxide at 2000ºC. Unstable in a hydrogen sulfide atmosphere. According to the ratio of CuO: CO2: H2O, basic copper carbonate exists in more than ten forms of compounds.
