When heated to 350-400 ℃, borax decahydrate will lose all its crystalline water and become anhydrous borax. Borax decahydrate is soluble in water and also in glycerol, but insoluble in alcohol. Its aqueous solution is weakly alkaline and appears colorless glassy when melted.
