What is waterproof motor, what requirements does motor waterproof have?

• Most motors are not waterproof, in large part because they work in environments that do not require waterproofing, and waterproofing materials add costs that limit overall performance and are often of value only to specific applications, such as pumps and fluid handling, off-road vehicles and other applications where fluids may come into contact with motors.Because of water and solvent, motion control components are often exposed to the risk of corrosion and failure, and waterproof motor is the key component to solve the problem of water-induced motor failure.The motor industry has a standardized liquid protection measure, known as IP protection level, that electrical engineering and motor manufacturers need to meet the requirements of the application specification.

• Stepper motors are economical, accurate, and easy to control, and they can operate reliably in a variety of environments (depending on the level of protection IP chosen) preferably in machines with additional enclosures or in clean environments

  The forward /reverse rotation of the stepping motor can be controlled by the input sequence of the controlled electric pulses.

Why can't ordinary motors meet this waterproof requirement?

• Although standard motors are the backbone of industry and laboratory motion control systems and provide reliable and accurate positioning at the lowest cost, their design has some weaknesses in terms of humidity.First, the coil of a standard motor is wound with magnetic wire, a type of solid copper wire coated with enamel or insulation.Although the coating process is good, it is not perfect, and there are always some small pinholes in the varnish.When the magnetic wire is wound into a coil, it is unlikely that any two pinholes will line up and "short-circuit".
• In general, the conductor spacing provided by the insulation prevents conduction from one pinhole to the next.If water is between windings, it also facilitates pinhole to pinhole conduction.In this case, the current from the power source will quickly destroy the motor winding.High quality insulation and impregnation processes can prevent this problem but greatly increase product costs.
• The material of stator and rotor is easy to corrode and rust in humid environment
• The rotor and stator of the motor are mostly made of magnetic iron (silicon steel), which is easy to corrode in the humid environment. Meanwhile, in order to optimize the torque, the gap between the rotating teeth and non-rotating teeth of the motor is kept at about 0.05mm.When the motor is running, these rotor slots get hot, usually high enough to turn any water in the motor into steam.The steam is corrosive, so the magnetic iron in the rotor teeth rusts faster than usual.Once rust has filled in the 0.05mm air gap and the rotor and stator teeth start to rub, this eliminates the effective torque of the motor and loosens the magnetic iron.
