1.description:
Micro-molding is mainly performed using metal powders that consist of particles with medium-sized diameters. As a general rule, the powder particle sizes should amount to no more than one-tenth or, preferably, one-twentieth of the size of the smallest detail of the cavity. The d50 values of the steels are typically in the range of 1.5–4.5 μm, but fractions up to 10 μm or above are also used. The major MicroMIM steels 316 L and 17-4PH are available as finest < 5 μm fractions. Powders of still finer structures or other types of steel can be obtained by, for example, air separation. Pure iron powders, just as the steels above, are available as fractions with particle sizes of 1.5 μm and below.
