The outer spherical bearing is a unique type of bearing that is known for its spherical outer ring surface. This design feature enables the outer spherical bearing to be well-suited to fit into a corresponding concave spherical surface of a bearing seat, providing automatic self-aligning ability. In instances where the shaft is deflected by a load or the installation center line of the shaft and the bearing seat hole is displaced, the bearing can still operate within its self-aligning range, thus avoiding the negative impact of installation errors or shaft deformation on the bearing's function.
The outer spherical bearing typically carries radial and axial combined loads. However, it is generally not suitable to carry axial loads alone. The bearing's structure mainly comprises of a spherical outer ring, an inner ring, and rolling elements (like balls or rollers) situated between them. These rolling elements facilitate smooth rolling action between the inner and outer rings, thus reducing friction and transferring loads efficiently.
One of the most notable features of outer spherical bearings is their automatic self-aligning ability. This means that the outer diameter surface of the outer ring is a spherical surface, which allows the bearing to fit into the corresponding concave spherical surface of the bearing seat. As a result, it has the function of automatic self-aligning. Even if the shaft is deflected due to load or the installation center line of the shaft and the bearing seat hole is relatively offset, the bearing can still work within its self-aligning range. This ability helps to avoid the impact of installation errors or shaft deformation on the operation of the bearing.
Outer spherical bearings are mainly used to bear radial and axial combined loads dominated by radial loads. However, it is usually not recommended to bear axial loads alone during design.
Outer spherical bearings generally have a double-layer seal design, mainly because they are usually used in harsh operating environments, such as agricultural machinery bearings. The double-layer seal ensures that dust is not easy to enter the inside of its channel, thereby extending the service life of the bearing.
The inner diameter of the outer spherical bearing is a tapered inner hole with a ratio of 1:12, and it needs to cooperate with a tight sleeve when used. There are outer spherical ball bearings with top screws and eccentric sleeves, and their application scenarios and performance characteristics are slightly different.
Outer spherical bearings are widely used in the industrial field, such as large machinery and equipment, heavy machinery, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, transmission equipment, mining machinery, etc.
Finally, outer spherical bearings have other performance characteristics such as large load capacity, long service life, easy installation, and prevention of outer ring rotation. In harsh working environments, such as high temperature, heavy load, vibration and other conditions, outer spherical bearings can still maintain a stable working state.
