For vegetables (such as broccoli, lettuce, etc.) and fruits (such as apples, pears, etc.), microporous bags can regulate the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the bag. For example, broccoli will respire during storage, consuming oxygen and producing carbon dioxide. Microporous bags can allow an appropriate amount of oxygen to enter the bag to ensure the normal breathing of broccoli, while discharging excessive carbon dioxide to prevent anaerobic respiration from producing harmful substances such as alcohol, thereby extending its shelf life, generally by about 3-7 days.
For some perishable berry fruits, such as blueberries and raspberries, microporous bags can balance the gas composition in the bag while maintaining a certain humidity. Because these fruits are prone to mold in a high humidity environment, the breathable characteristics of microporous bags can reduce water vapor accumulation, help maintain the freshness and quality of the fruit, and extend the shelf life by about 2-5 days.
