What are the common causes of high TDS levels in boiler water?
High Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in boiler water can have several causes, including:
Poor Feedwater Quality: If the quality of the feedwater is poor, high levels of TDS can be introduced into the boiler. Poor feedwater quality can be caused by a variety of factors, including high levels of dissolved minerals, organic matter, and suspended solids.
Inadequate Pre-Treatment: Inadequate pre-treatment of the feedwater can also lead to high TDS levels in the boiler. Pre-treatment processes such as filtration, softening, and reverse osmosis are designed to remove or reduce TDS in the feedwater before it enters the boiler. If these processes are not working properly or are not sufficient for the feedwater being used, high TDS levels can result.
Carryover: Carryover occurs when water droplets are carried out of the boiler with the steam. This can happen when the boiler water level is too high, or when there is excessive foaming or priming. The water droplets can contain high levels of TDS, which can lead to high TDS levels in the steam and condensate system.
