CNPetro offers Petrolatum Tape that is ideal for pipeline coating purposes. This tape is designed to suit a wide range of applications, including house connections and fittings. It is especially useful in complex areas like T-Pieces when working with petroleum filling material.
Our Petrolatum Tape is an anti-corrosive binding that uses chemical fiber-based materials such as Non-Woven on both sides, coated with modified petroleum. The tape possesses remarkable adhesive and elastic properties with a high softening point.
Our Petroleum tape functions as an inner wrapping tape and comes with an additional layer of outer wrapping tape. This additional layer provides mechanical protection to the pipeline.
The product meets NACE RP0375-2006 , which ensures its quality and effectiveness. It is specifically designed to be applied to marginally prepared surfaces, as per SSPC SP 2-3 standards. Additionally, it conforms to irregular shapes and profiles, making it versatile for different types of surfaces.
It also has the unique ability to be applied to cold, wet surfaces, which is not a feature commonly found in other products. Furthermore, it is not affected by water, acid, salts or soil organics , ensuring its stability and longevity.
One of its main uses is the encapsulation of lead paint. It is also noteworthy that it contains no solvents, making it an environmentally friendly solution.
Its ease of application is another key aspect; it can be applied in arctic to tropical temperatures , making it suitable for a wide range of climates. Once applied, it can be ready for immediate service.
In addition to meeting the NACE RP0375-2006 standard, this product also meets AS 4822-2008, ISO 21809-3:2008 and AWWA C217 Standard . With over an 80 year history of proven applications , this product is a reliable and effective solution for various surface needs.
The average thickness, as per ASTM D1000, is 1.15 mm. The weight, on average, is 1.50 kg/m2. The breaking strength, as per ASTM D1000, is a minimum of 200 N/50 mm. The Water Vapor Transmission is 0.006 perms on average, as per ASTM E96 - 66 Procedure A. The average Elongation @ Break is 10%.
The minimum Breakdown Voltage, with a 55% overlap, is 16 kV. The average Resistance to Cathodic Disbonding, as per ASTM G-8 - 30 days, is 180 mm2. The material shows excellent Resistance to Acids, Alkalies, and Salts. The Maximum Service Temperature for this material is 55°C.

Prior to application of protective coatings, the surfaces must be prepared by removing any loose scale, rust or other foreign matter. This can be done through hand tool cleaning, power tool cleaning, or high pressure water washing. For hand tool cleaning, the surface is scraped and wire brushed to remove loose material, then wiped clean. For power tool cleaning, a power tool is used to remove heavy rust and to polish the surface. High pressure water washing is a suitable alternative, using water pressure between 3,000 and 7,000 psi.
After surface preparation, a thin film of petroleum paste should be applied. The tape should then be spirally wrapped with a 55% overlap, making sure to press air pockets out and smooth all lap seams. For irregular surfaces like valves and flanges, Petroleum Filler Mastic or Profiling Mastic may be required. To ensure mechanical protection, PVC tape should be applied as an outerwrap.
