OSRAM 64258-C is a 12V 20W halogen light bulb with the characteristic of ultraviolet transmission tungsten wire. It uses a quartz glass shell, which can maximize the transmission rate of ultraviolet rays and reduce the output of ultraviolet rays compared to ordinary light bulbs. This light bulb is commonly used in UV visible spectrophotometers and is designed for precision optical applications such as biochemical analyzers and light meters in industrial/laboratory settings, with a very high transmittance.
This type of bulb can be used for UV-visible spectrophotometry, also known as UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, which uses the continuous spectrum of electromagnetic waves in the ultraviolet-visible light region as a light source to illuminate the sample and study the relative intensity of light absorption by the molecules of the substance. The molecules or groups in the substance absorb the incident ultraviolet-visible light energy, and the energy level transition between electrons produces a characteristic ultraviolet-visible spectrum.
The basic requirement for a light source is to emit a continuous spectrum within a broad spectral range; Having sufficient radiation intensity; The light source has good stability; There is no significant change in radiation energy with wavelength. The commonly used light sources in ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometers are tungsten filament lamps and hydrogen lamps (deuterium lamps). Tungsten filament lamps suffer from tungsten evaporation loss due to heating, and appropriate amounts of halogens or halides can be added to form halogen tungsten lamps to extend their service life.
