Nellcor DEC-8 pulse oximetry SpO 2 extension cable for Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitor 300 Series

► Brief Introduction

Verify that the sensor cable connector has slots on both sides. If the cable connector has a slot on only one side, then the sensor is not compatible with the monitor.

The SpO 2 connectors are notched and flanged to ensure proper fit. If the connectors do not join easily, stop and verify the following:

• You have the correct SpO 2 sensor.
• The cable connector is aligned correctly.

► Testing the monitor only (Nellcor SpO 2 )

Use this procedure to test only the monitor SpO 2 function.

1. Power the monitor off.

2. Connect the Nellcor class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX SpO 2 functional tester to the SpO 2 input connector through a Nellcor DEC-8 extension cable.

3. Power the monitor on.

4. Verify the following on the class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX:

• All of the monitor LEDs flash: left panel, center panel, right panel.
• class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX initializes to a default condition where the four test parameter LEDs are lit closest to their selector buttons
• The default pulse rate is 60 bpm and the default SpO 2 is 75%

5. Give the monitor up to 30 seconds to stabilize, and verify a displayed pulse rate of 60 ± 3 bpm and a displayed SpO 2 of 75 ± 3%.

6. Set the class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX pulse rate to 200 bpm.

7. Give the monitor up to 30 seconds to stabilize, and verify a displayed pulse rate of 200 ± 3 bpm.

8. Switch the class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX SpO 2 saturation percentage to 90.

9. Give the monitor up to 30 seconds to stabilize, and verify a displayed SpO 2 saturation level of 90 ± 3%.

10. Disconnect the class="lazy" src="/myres/images/load_icon.gif" data-original-MAX.

► Test the isolation between SpO2 and DC input:

1. Connect the SpO 2 test cable between the SpO 2 connector and the high-voltage jack on the hi-pot tester.
2. Push the test button to run the AC Withstand Voltage test.
3. Verify that the monitor passed the test. (If the input current never exceeds 2.50 mA, the isolation is sufficient.)
4. Remove the SpO 2 test cable.
