Chemical modification is mainly to change the molecular structure of PP, add hydrophilic groups to the macromolecular chain, and then change its hygroscopicity, mainly including copolymerization, grafting, crosslinking, chlorination and other methods. Physical modification is mainly through blending modification (i.e., before spinning) and surface modification (i.e., after spinning) to change the higher order structure of the molecule to improve the hydrophilic effect. According to the different adding time of modified additives, blending modification (pre-spinning modification) can be divided into masterbatch method, full granulation method and pre-spinning injection method. Common masterbatch is an important method for producing hydrophilic non-woven fabric. Ordinary hydrophilic additives are first made into jellyfish particles, and then mixed with PP spinning into cloth. Advantages: simple production, no need to add any equipment, suitable for small batch cattle production, in addition, its hydrophilic lasting. Disadvantages: hydrophilic effect is slow, machining performance is not good, often in the case of spinning cloth. Cost is high, it is 2 ~ 3 times that of surface modification finishing method. Poor spinnability, need to adjust the process. In one case, a customer wasted five tons of fabric from two parent factories without producing the finished product. The full granulation method will be modified agent, PP slice, additives mixed evenly, through the screw full granulation, made of hydrophilic PP particles, and then melt spinning into cloth. Advantages: good processability, lasting effect, cloth can be used repeatedly. Disadvantages: need to increase screw extruder equipment, high tonnage cost, hydrophilic effect is slow, only suitable for mass production. Hydrophilic agent, namely hydrophilic polymer, is directly added to the main screw of non-woven fabric by injection before spinning, and then mixed evenly with PP melt for direct spinning. Advantages: durable, cloth can be used repeatedly. Disadvantages: uneven mixing, often resulting in difficult spinning and poor maneuverability. Surface hydrophilic finishing (post-spinning) hydrophilic finishing is a simple, effective and low-cost method for producing hydrophilic non-woven fabrics. Most of our non-woven fabric manufacturers mainly use this method. The main process is as follows: on-line spunbond hot rolled nonwoves - roll coating or hydrophilic water spray - infrared or hot air. Advantages: there is no spinnability problem, non-woven cloth hydrophilic effect fast, efficient, low price, is the cost of the common masterbatch method 1/2-1/3. Suitable for mass production; Disadvantages: Need to purchase post-processing equipment separately, expensive. The washing resistance test shows that the penetration time increases by about two times after three washes. Can not meet the requirements of repeated use; The advantages and disadvantages of mass production of this method determine that it is mainly suitable for disposable products requiring high permeability and hydrophilic water, such as sanitary materials, diapers, sanitary napkins and so on.
