The application of aluminum alloy on bicycles
1. 6000 series aluminum alloys (such as 6061, 6063)
Characteristics:
Good strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, easy processing and surface treatment.
Application:
Frame and fork: 6061 aluminum alloy is a commonly used material for bicycle frames and forks due to its high strength, light weight, and ease of welding.
Handle and seat Tube: 6061 aluminum alloy is CNC machined into lightweight and high-strength components.
Wheel hub: 6061 aluminum alloy is used to manufacture the wheel hub shell, ensuring strength and durability.
Cranks: 6061 aluminum alloy achieves lightweight and high precision through CNC machining.
2. 7000 series aluminum alloys (such as 7005, 7075)
Characteristics:
Ultra high strength, high hardness, but poor weldability, usually used for components that require high strength.
Application:
High end frame: 7005 aluminum alloy is used for high-end frames, providing higher strength and rigidity.
Front fork shoulder cover: 7075 aluminum alloy is used for the front fork shoulder cover to ensure high strength and durability.
Transmission components: such as the rear derailleur housing, 7075 aluminum alloy achieves lightweight and high strength through CNC machining.
3. 5000 series aluminum alloys (such as 5052, 5083)
Characteristics:
Good corrosion resistance and formability, moderate strength, commonly used for non structural components.
Application:
Fenders: 5052 aluminum alloy is used to manufacture lightweight fenders.
Chain cover: 5052 aluminum alloy is stamped into a chain cover.
Decorative components: such as car logos or decorative pieces, 5052 aluminum alloy is easy to surface treat.
4. 2000 series aluminum alloy (such as 2014, 2024)
Characteristics:
High strength, but poor corrosion resistance, usually requiring surface treatment.
Application:
Brake discs: 2024 aluminum alloy is used to manufacture lightweight brake discs.
Foot pedal shaft: Made of 2014 aluminum alloy, this high-strength foot pedal shaft is precision machined.
