Mesh Pad Demister Mist Eliminator Introduction
Mesh Pad Demister can be sealed in the liquid or within a gas box with a liquid drain sealed in the liquid. In the latter case, enough space must be provided between the bottom of the gas box and the liquid level to prevent siphoning of liquid up the drain tube.
Mist eliminators are primarily used in gas separation columns to remove liquids from the gas stream. As a gas stream with entrained liquid flows through the mist eliminator mesh, the liquid collects as droplets. This results in creating a drier gas downstream of the mist eliminator.
The demister pads work by coalescing smaller liquid droplets by obstructing their path. Obstruction of the path causes increased collisions among the liquid droplets. Most of these droplets stick together and form bigger droplets that are too heavy to rise with the gas stream. Thus the more significant liquid drops drop down in the pool of liquid below. The gas stream is not affected by the obstruction in the path and escapes through the top vapor outlet. The obstruction in the path of liquid droplets can be achieved by a variety of geometries. Demister pad may be a mesh-type coalescer, vane pack, or other structure intended to aggregate the mist into droplets that are heavy enough to separate from the vapor stream.
