Antimalarial

PHARMACOLOGY
QUINE is a syiieigistic combination of an aitemisinin derivative and a new
bisquiiioline compound;
It is active against the asexual foiins of plasm odium,schiqoiits aiid gametocytes. Its action on scliizonts insures a rapid decrease oi pathogenic parasitaemia which leads to a quick disappearance of clinical signs; its action on gametocytes prevents coitaminatioii.
The absorption of QUINE after oral intake is rapid and complete; it is
extensively distributed in all tissues.
Half life of DHA is very short (around 2 hours) whereas PPQ is long (around 9 days)

INDICATIONS
QIJINE is indicated for the treatment of all kinds of malaria,as long as patients
call take oral medications. It is particularly recommended in the case of multi-i.esistant
Plasmodium lalciparum malaria.
Drug lnteraction:Not clear.
Over Dosage:Not clear
Pregnaney & Lactation and presentation: The pregiiate women with 3 months are prohibited
The later pregnant women nursing mouthers should be taking this medicine under the
physician's OTitictioiis.

ADMINISTOA'nON AND DOSAGE
0ml administration.
Patient should follow doctor's instruction. The recommended dosage is the following
table:

ADVERSE EFFECTS
Few cases of adverse effects have been reported after administration of QUINE
Most of tliein are related to PPQ affecting the digestive tract (nausea,diarrhea,loss of
appetite,etc.) Rare reactions have also been reported (rash, pruritus, etc.)

CONTRAINDICATIONS
As all new drugs, QUINE is not recommended during the first trimester of
pregnancy unless vour doctor considers the risk of the disease to be greater.
A new course QIUNE should not be taken within four weeks after the first
treatment.

STORAGE
Keep all medicine out of reach of children.
Preserve in tight and lighlproof containers.
Store ill a cool and dry place below 30.C
