Electrodeionization (EDI) is an advanced technology for water treatment and water purification that combines electrochemical and ion exchange processes to remove ions and dissolved salts from water to produce high-purity water. The following is an introduction to electrodeionization technology:
Working principle:
Electrochemical process: EDI uses an electric field to move ions in water to electrodes. Through the electrolysis of the cathode and anode, positive ions (cations) are attracted to the cathode and negative ions (anions) are attracted to the anode.
Ion exchange process: In the EDI unit, the ion exchange membrane separates the water into two parts, one part passes through the cation exchange membrane (CEM) and the other part passes through the anion exchange membrane (AEM).
Electrolytic deionization: Through the action of the electric field and ion exchange membrane, the ions in the water are gradually removed, resulting in high-purity deionized water.
Advantages:
High-efficiency deionization: EDI technology can efficiently remove ions and dissolved salts from water to produce high-purity water.
Continuous operation: Compared with traditional ion exchange resin technology, EDI can achieve continuous operation without periodic regeneration.
