The yield strength of 2205 duplex stainless steel is more than twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel. This feature allows designers to reduce weight when designing products, making this alloy more affordable than 316 317L. This alloy is particularly suitable for temperatures of - 50 ° F/+600 ° F. This alloy can also be considered for applications beyond this temperature range, but there are some limitations, especially for welded structures.
The chemical composition of 2205 can obtain an ideal microstructure after solution annealing at 1900 °/1922 ° F (1040 °/1080 ° C) 50 α / fifty γ . If the temperature of heat treatment is higher than 2000 ° F, the ferrite composition may be increased. Like other duplex stainless steels, 2205 alloy is susceptible to the precipitation of intermetallic phase. The intermetallic phase precipitates between 1300 ° F and 1800 ° F. At 1600 ° F, the precipitation rate is the fastest. Therefore, we need to test 2205 to ensure that there is no intermetallic phase. Refer to ASTM A 923 for the test.

It has high corrosion resistance. Compared with austenite, 2205 duplex stainless steel has lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher thermal conductivity.

The compressive strength of duplex stainless steel 2205 alloy is twice that of austenitic stainless steel, and the designer can reduce its weight compared with 316L and 317L. 2205 alloy is especially suitable for the temperature range of - 50 ° F/+600 ° F. It can also be used for lower temperatures under strict restrictions (especially for welded structures).

3) The 2205 duplex stainless steel, which is widely used in many media, has better corrosion resistance than the ordinary 316L austenitic stainless steel, while the super duplex stainless steel has extremely high corrosion resistance. In some media, such as acetic acid and formic acid, it can even replace the high alloy austenitic stainless steel, or even the corrosion resistant alloy.
4) It has good local corrosion resistance. Compared with austenitic stainless steel with the same alloy content, its wear resistance corrosion and fatigue corrosion performance are better than austenitic stainless steel.
5) The linear expansion coefficient is lower than that of austenitic stainless steel and close to that of carbon steel. It is suitable for connecting with carbon steel and has important engineering significance, such as producing composite plates or linings.
6) No matter under dynamic or static load conditions, it has higher energy absorption capacity than austenitic stainless steel, which has obvious advantages and practical application value for structural members to cope with sudden accidents such as collision and explosion.
