The overview of Switching power supply
Switching power supply is a device which use modern power electronics technology to control time ratio of switching tube open and off and maintain a stable output voltage of power supply, switching power supply is generally composed of IC and MOSFET which is controlled through pulse width modulation (PWM) compared with linear power. The cost of switching power supply increases with the increase of output power, but the growth rate is different. Linear power cost is higher than switching power supply at a certain output power point, which is called cost reversal point. With the development and innovation of power electronics technology and switching power supply technology constantly innovating, this cost reversal point is increasingly moving to low output power end, which provides a broad development space for switching power supply.
Switching power high-frequency is the direction of its development, high-frequency will make switching power miniaturization and make switching power into a wider range of applications, especially in the field of high-tech applications, promoting high-tech products miniaturization and portability. In addition, the development and application of switching power supply are of great significance in energy saving, resource saving and environmental protection.
The main power electronic devices used in switching power supply are diode, IGBT and MOSFET.
SCR has a small number of applications in switching power supply inputting rectifier circuit and soft start circuit, GTR is difficult to drive with low switching frequency and gradually replaced by IGBT and MOSFET.
Three conditions of switching power supply
1. Switching: power electronic devices work in the switching state rather than linear state
2. High frequency: power electronic devices work at high frequency rather than low frequency close to power frequency
3. DC: switching power supply output is DC rather than AC
AC/DC conversion
AC/DC transformer transforms AC into DC, and its power flow can be bidirectional. The power flow from power supply to the load is called "rectification", and the power flow from the load back to the power supply is called "active inverter". AC/DC converter input is 50/60Hz alternating current, because it must be rectified and filtering, so relatively large volume of filtering capacitor is essential, at the same time due to safety standards (such as UL, CCEE, etc.) and EMC directive restrictions (such as IEC, FCC, CSA), AC input side must add EMC filter and use components in accordance with safety standards , thus limiting the miniaturization of AC/DC power supply volume. In addition, due to internal high frequency, high voltage, large current switch action, It makes to increase difficulties of solving the problem of electromagnetic compatibility EMC, and because of the same reason of the request of high density installation circuit design, the high voltage and high current switches make power supply loss increased and limit the modularization process of AC/DC converter. Therefore, the optimization design method of power supply system must be adopted to make the efficiency of AC/DC converter reach a certain degree of satisfaction.
AC/DC transform can be divided into half-wave circuit and full-wave circuit according to the wiring mode of the circuit. According to the number of power supply, phase can be divided into single phase, three phase and multi phase. According to the circuit working quadrant, it can be divided into one quadrant, two quadrant, three quadrant and four quadrant.
