North American Certification ISED Canada officially releases RSS-102 Issue 6

On December 15, 2023, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada ISED released RSS-102 Issue 6 "Radio Frequency (RF) Exposure Compliance of Radio Communications Equipment (All Frequency Bands)" and modified the absorbed power density (APD) ), nerve stimulation (NS) and specific absorption rate (SAR) exemption limits.

ISED gives a 12-month transition period for the new version of the standard. During this transition period, certification applications for RSS-102 version 5 or 6 will be accepted. That is, after December 15, 2024, the new version 6 of the RSS-102 standard will be mandatory.

♦ RSS-102.IPD.SIM Issue 1—“Simulation Procedure for Evaluating Incident Power Density (IPD) Compliance Per RSS-102”

IC is the abbreviation of Industry Canada. As a government agency, it is responsible for the certification of electronic and electrical products entering the Canadian market. The products it is responsible for are roughly divided into: radio and television equipment, information technology equipment, radio equipment, telecommunications equipment, engineering and medical equipment, etc. Similar to the FCC in the United States, the IC currently only imposes restrictions on electromagnetic interference.

Certification Category
Two methods, self-verification and certification, can be used.
IC ID: CN (Company Number, up to 6 digits) + UPN (Unique Product Number, up to 8 digits).

IC ID application instructions:

1. Must have Canadian representative address information.
2. The label must contain the following information (manufacturer name or trademark, model name, IC ID number).

application process
1. The manufacturer or agent submits an oral or written preliminary application to the certification company.
2. The applicant fills out the application form and sends the application form, product instructions and technical documents to the certification company, and provides a prototype if necessary.
3. The certification company formulates a plan and quotes.
4. The applicant confirms the quotation, signs the quotation form, and sends the samples and relevant technical documents to the certification company.
5. The applicant provides technical documents.
6. The certification company issues a charging notice to the applicant, and the applicant pays the certification fee in advance according to the charging notice requirements.
7. The certification company reviews the technical documents and organizes relevant certification activities.
8. If the technical documents are incomplete or do not use the prescribed language, the certification company will notify the applicant to make improvements.
9. If the test fails, the certification company will promptly notify the applicant and decide whether to suspend the project and allow the applicant to improve the product. The applicant should make changes to the technical information in the original application to reflect the actual situation after the change.
10. For the rectification costs involved in Articles 9 and 10 of this page, the certification company will issue a supplementary charge notice to the applicant.
11. The applicant shall pay the rectification fee according to the supplementary fee notice.
12. The certification company provides test reports or technical documents and certificates to the applicant.

IC ID certification
Steps 1 to 2 are equivalent to IC certification
13. The test report and information are submitted to the FCB/TCB agency for review and certification.
