What is a lab-grown diamond?
Natural diamonds come from the earth, and laboratory-grown diamonds do not grow on the earth, but grow in the laboratory. After the laboratory-grown diamonds are cut and polished, there is no visual difference between them and natural diamonds.
Similarly, laboratory-grown diamonds are as hard as natural diamonds. Carbon is the main element of natural and laboratory-grown diamonds.
By 1959, scientists discovered that the main chemical impurity in diamonds was nitrogen, which is contained in type I diamonds, but not contained in type II diamonds. Using infrared spectroscopy can quickly determine the type of diamond.
Most natural diamonds are type Ia. Type Ia diamonds contain abundant nitrogen in clusters or pairs. This type of diamond cannot currently be cultivated artificially. Type Ib diamonds contain unpaired or clustered scattered nitrogen atoms, which are rare in natural diamonds. Type IIa diamond contains almost no nitrogen. The IIb diamond contains boron atoms.
Most synthetic diamonds are of type Ib, IIa and IIb.
HTHP and CVD are the two main methods for making laboratory-grown diamonds.

HTHP: High temperature and high pressure method (HTHP) uses graphite as raw material, introduces suitable metal catalysts, such as Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cr, etc., and can synthesize diamond at temperatures above 2000K and tens of thousands of atmospheres.

CVD: Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) is a method of decomposing raw materials at high temperatures to produce active particles such as carbon atoms or methyl groups, and depositing and growing a diamond film on the substrate (substrate) under certain process conditions Methods.
