Different Types of Makeup Sponges:

Makeup tools have evolved drastically in the last few years. Initially, fingers were considered to be the best tool for applying foundation, then came makeup brushes which were a better and more hygienic alternative. But makeup sponge beats them all with its efficiency to apply flawless makeup using the most minimal amount of product.

However, makeup sponges have evolved too. Nowadays, beauty sponges come in so many different shapes and size making it difficult to pick the right one. Each shape is designed for a specific purpose and we will guide you through the uses of each one of them.

(1) Triangle sponge

The triangle sponge has been around for a while now and is largely used by professional makeup artists worldwide. Compared to other makeup sponges, they don’t burn a hole in your pocket. They get the job done but may not be the most ideal choice for beginners as the rigid lines make it hard to distribute the product evenly.

(2) Pear shaped

This sponge has a tapered tip that allows precision and targeted coverage. The tip can be used to get in areas that are hard to reach such as the corners of your nose. Applying the product using the curves of this tool gives an opaque finish whereas the rounded base offers a sheerer application. The slightly contoured shape makes blending your highlighter easily by rolling it on the apples of your cheeks.

The classic teardrop or oval-shaped makeup sponge is still the most reliable tool used by makeup artists, bloggers and makeup enthusiasts in general. And for all the right reasons, it applies a seamless coat of liquid, gel, and cream formulas leaving skin perfectly flawless. The large end is used to apply your foundation whereas the tapered point is perfect for blending concealer over more targeted areas of your face.

The flat-ended makeup sponge is also rightly called the multi-tasker sponge. Boasting three different sides, the rounded side is great for basic application of foundation and bronzer, the tapered tip for detailing and flat side for contouring. Use it dry for full coverage or damp for a controlled and buildable look.

How to Clean Makeup Sponges?

Reusable, microbial-resistant makeup sponges or beauty blenders are an eco-friendly alternative to basic foam sponges. Like all other reusable makeup tools, however, these sponges need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Grime, germs, oils, and other gunk can build up in a dirty sponge and damage your skin. Wash your makeup blenders with liquid or solid soap on a daily or weekly basis.

1,Washing Reusable Makeup Sponges with Liquid Soap

(1) Dampen the sponge with fresh water.

In order for the soap to work into a cleansing lather, your dirty sponge must be wet. Turn on your faucet and run your reusable sponge under warm water. Squeeze the sponge to remove the excess water.Your sponge should be damp, not soaking wet.

(2) Clean the reusable sponge with liquid soap.

Squirt a dime-sized drop of mild liquid baby shampoo or dish soap into your hand and roll the sponge between your palms. When the sponge has absorbed all of the soap, rinse it under warm water and squeeze out the excess water. Repeat this process until the water coming from the sponge is clear.
Reusable sponges are very absorbent. To remove all of the makeup, you may need to apply soap and rinse the sponge several times.
Some reusable sponges, also called makeup blenders, are sold with specially formulated liquid cleansers. Cleaning these sponges with gentle baby shampoo or dish soap will not result in damage

(3) Dry your reusable sponge.

Once your sponge is clean, turn off the water and squeeze out all of the excess water. Grab a clean towel and wrap your sponge in it and squeeze the rest of the excess water out. Repeat this step a couple times until you feel the sponge is mostly dry. Lay sponge out overnight to completely dry. As your reusable sponge dries, it will shrink down to its original size.
