How does Fractional RF work?
Thefractional RF treatment is designed for use in dermatological procedures for ablation (removal) of soft tissue and resurfacing of the skin. Thefractional RF allows for a customized approach of fractional bi-polar RF (radio frequency) energy, allowing all skin types and locations (except eyelids and lips) to be treated. Benefits of this treatment include the reduction of wrinkles, skin laxity, scars, acne scars, textural irregularities, tone, and superficial skin lesions.
To perform thefractional RF, a unique applicator head and one-time use treatment tip are added onto the Syneron treatment machine. Due to the unique nature of the treatment head and the RF delivery, the majority of the ablation from the procedure occurs under the skin, as sublative rejuvenation, allowing for less downtime for the patient, less surface skin removal, and better results than treatments done with traditional fractional lasers. See the illustration below to understand the difference between traditional fractional lasers and thefractional RF. It shows how thefractional RF goes deeper into the skin and effects the underlying levels, as opposed to removing more surface skin and damaging the top level.
200 pulses are done with eachfractional RF applicator tip and the program level (depth and power) can be changed as needed for more delicate areas. Because of the unique size and shape of the applicator tip, RF energy is delivered in a non-homogeneous fractional pattern to dry, non-moisturized skin. This allows some areas to have less impact than others, which promotes faster healing.
Matrix RF treatments are most effective when done as a series of treatments, with at least 3 treatments being completed, usually in 4-6 week intervals. Multiple treatments are needed for full effects and you will continue to see your improvements develop, becoming more and more noticable 2-4 months after your series is completed. This series of treatments can also be combined with other treatments including FotoFacial, Skin Tightening ST Refirme, Venus Freeze, and additional procedures done by Dr. Rueckl, to enhance the effects of thefractional RF, if desired.

Fractional RF’s microneedle is insulated except 0.3mm of the end of the needle where the RF comes out.
Fractional RFis different from the laser because electro energy transforms into thermal energy.
The RF energy from the end of needle transfers energy from its point circle to nearby areas that causes coagulation and denaturalization. During the insertion of Fractional RFneedles to skin, epidermis will get micro holes but will not get a thermal damage while RF energy is emitted. Thus, it could minimize the side effects of pigmentation and others.

Combination Treatment with Co2 Fractional
Once RF energy is penetrated into the dermis, column of target tissue in dermis processes to regenerate the skin. After the RF microneedle treatment, CO2 fractional laser is irradiating on epidermal area. Since light energy turns into thermal energy on a skin surface as shown in the picture, the thermal energy spreads and expands its area from the irradiation spot to its circle surroundings.
