Oil canvas is a kind of cloth on which a special coating material is applied to prevent oil, solvent, water, etc. from penetrating into fabric, and it is used in oil painting. Additionally, the coated cloth which is utilized for aerosol painting, photography, indoor and outdoor advertisement, light box and so on, is also named as oil painting cloth.
In terms of the fabric used to make hand-painted canvas, the materials, which are compact and flat, are cotton canvas, linen, and chemical fiber cloth. The latter one is extremely flat and smooth, thus it is fit for inkjet printing and printing.
