2, Butt welding is to use resistance heat to weld two workpieces along the whole end face at the same time, which is widely used in the welding of workpieces.
3, Socket weld forms fillet weld, butt weld forms butt weld. Butt welding is better than socket welding in strength and stress condition, so butt welding should be used in high pressure situation and bad field.
4, Socket welding is generally used for small pipe diameter less than or equal to Dn40, such as small-diameter valve and pipe, pipe fitting and pipe welding, which is more economical. Butt welding is generally used for those above Dn40.
5, Most of the lower caliber and smaller pressure rating are socket welding, while those with higher pressure rating are butt welding.
6, And 100% flaw detection test shall be conducted for butt welding to ensure no leakage.
7, Socket welding requires a difference in diameter to insert welding, butt welding is not required.
8, The requirement of butt welding is generally higher than that of socket welding, and the quality is good after welding, so the detection method is relatively strict.
9, Butt welding shall be subject to radiographic inspection, while socket welding shall be subject to magnetic particle or penetrant inspection.
