They are required, for example, if the power supplied by the CPU or the interface modules to the backplane bus is not sufficient to supply all connected modules, or if more than one power segment in the S7-1500 configuration or in distributed configuration in ET 200MP should be implemented.
In addition, the PS 60W 24/48/60V DC HF allows all S7-1500 CPUs to retentively store their entire work memory (data) thanks to an appropriate power buffer.

Design
Power supplies are screwed directly to the S7-1500 mounting rail and are connected with the upstream or downstream module via a U connector. PS 60W 24/48/60V DC HF can only be connected next to the CPU/IM on the left-hand side.
