                                       Electromagnetic Flow Meter For Beer or Brewery Equipment

 

1. Introduction

A magnetic flow meter (mag meter, electromagnetic flow meter) is a transducer that measures fluid flow by the voltage induced across the liquid by its flow through a magnetic field. A magnetic field is applied to the metering tube, which results in a potential difference proportional to the flow velocity perpendicular to the flux lines. The physical principle at work is electromagnetic induction. The magnetic flow meter requires a conducting fluid, for example, water that contains ions, and an electrical insulating pipe surface, for example, a rubber-lined steel tube.

If the magnetic field direction were constant, electrochemical and other effects at the electrodes would make the potential difference difficult to distinguish from the fluid flow induced potential difference. To mitigate this in modern magnetic flowmeters, the magnetic field is constantly reversed, cancelling out the electrochemical potential difference, which does not change direction with the magnetic field. This however prevents the use of permanent magnets for magnetic flowmeters.

3.How Does A Magnetic Flow Meter Work?

Magnetic flow meters use a magnetic field to generate and channel liquid flow through a pipe. A voltage signal is created when a conductive liquid flows through the flowmeter’s magnetic field. The faster the flow of the fluid, the greater the voltage signal generated. Electrode sensors located on the flow tube walls pick up the voltage signal and send it to the electronic transmitter, which processes the signal to determine liquid flow.

The key questions which need to be answered before selecting a magnetic flow meter are:

  • Is the fluid conductive or water based?
  • Is the fluid or slurry abrasive?
  • Do you require an integral display or remote display?
  • Do you require an analog output?
  • What is the minimum and maximum flow rate for the flow meter?
  • What is the minimum and maximum process pressure?
  • What is the minimum and maximum process temperature?
  • Is the fluid chemically compatible with the flow meter wetted parts?

7. Maintance

The electromagnetic flowmeter has a self-diagnostic function. In addition to power supply and hardware circuit failures, the system also alarms other failures in general use. These messages will give corresponding prompts in the lower right corner of the screen.


1 Maintenance and repair
a) The sensor installation site should meet the requirements of Section 4, please keep the housing tidy;
b) The transmitter should be placed in a clean, ventilated and dry place;
c) It needs to be inspected every two years. For high-precision users, the instrument needs to be submitted for review.

2 Transportation and storage
a) The instrument must be packaged before transportation, and be handled with care when loading and unloading.
b) The storage place must be dry and ventilated to avoid corrosive gases, and the ambient temperature should not be too low or too high;
c) The storage time should not exceed three years.

3. Unpacking inspection
a) The package cannot be opened with a heavy hammer, be careful not to damage the instrument
b) Check the contents carefully according to the packing list.
