Activated Alumina hollow Ball is a new type of high-temperature heat insulation material. Alumina hollow ball is a new type of light-weight, high-temperature-resistant and heat-insulating refractory material. It melts industrial alumina with a content of more than 98% in a three-phase electric arc furnace. Melt use compressed air to blow the molten liquid alumina into hollow spheres to obtain alumina hollow spheres.
The crystal type is a-Al2O3 microcrystals. With alumina hollow ball as the main body, it can be made into various specifications of refractory lightweight products, the highest use temperature is 1800℃, the mechanical strength is high, the thermal conductivity is low, and the performance is stable in various atmospheres. It has been widely used in high temperature and ultra-high temperature furnaces such as petrochemical industry gasifiers, carbon black industrial reaction furnaces, metallurgical industry induction furnaces, etc., and has achieved very satisfactory energy-saving effects.
There are two types of alumina hollow balls: mixed ball and graded ball:
Mixed ball level: 0.2-5mm
Grading ball level: 0.2-1mm, 1-2mm, 2-3mm, 3-5mm.

Activated alumina hollow ball advantages
1. High operating temperature:

Activated alumina hollow ball Production
The formation process of the hollow ball is that the alumina melt is sprayed with high-pressure air and completed within 10 to 30 seconds. The ball formation process is actually a rapid cooling and shrinking process. The melting point of alumina is 2050℃, and the temperature suitable for blowing should be higher than the melting point of 200~300℃, which means it needs to be heated to 2200~2300℃. If the temperature of the melt is low and the viscosity is high, it is easy to blow into thick-walled balls or honeycomb-shaped hollow balls.
Blown alumina hollow balls are divided into 3 stages:
1. It is the melting stage, which increases the temperature and reduces the viscosity of the melt;
Second, it is the blowing stage;
Third, it is the cooling and solidification stage.
The formation of alumina hollow balls is a process of rapid cooling volume shrinkage change of alumina high temperature melt after spraying. These small droplets fall in the air in a parabolic path. During this movement, the small droplet first forms a small ball under the action of surface tension and centrifugal force.
Production process of alumina hollow ball
When the small sphere is quenched, the surface instantaneously solidifies, while the inside of the sphere is still in a liquid state. Under the action of centrifugal force, the melt also produces a large volume shrinkage, so that the melt is quickly and uniformly solidified in the hollow On the outer shell of the ball, the whole process of forming the hollow ball is thus completed.
The internal shrinkage of the hollow sphere is due to the volume expansion of the alumina during the heating process. Although alumina only has a linear expansion of 1.6%~1.8% when heated to 1800℃, when the oxide is heated to the melting point temperature, when the substance changes from a solid phase to a liquid phase, it will produce a volume expansion of 20%~40% .
This volume expansion is related to the chemical bonds of the molecules. When the chemical bond in the molecule, such as the ionic bond, the larger the volume difference between the melt and the solid, the larger the covalent bond component, the smaller the volume difference. When alumina changes from a solid phase to a liquid phase, the molar volume expands by about 23.5%. Therefore, thermal expansion and contraction are the fundamental reason for the formation of alumina hollow spheres.
When blowing alumina hollow spheres, the melt temperature of Wuhan alumina hollow spheres fluctuates between 2200-2300°C. Alumina in a high-temperature liquid state has a greater thermal expansion rate. The coefficient of linear expansion of high-temperature liquids is generally 3 times that of the solid state. The partial pressure of the gas contained in the high-temperature liquid, which accelerates the expansion of the high-temperature liquid, is an important factor in promoting the formation of hollow alumina spheres.
There are two main aspects that form the partial pressure of the gas inside the high-temperature melt:
First, during the electric melting process, when adding powdered industrial alumina, part of the air brought in during the operation will still have some gas remaining in the high-temperature melt after the electric melting, forming honeycomb pores during the cooling process ;
Second, during the electric melting process, various oxides, especially low melting point oxides, gradually increase the volatilization rate during the electric melting process. The volatilization of this molten liquid can increase the gas partial pressure inside the liquid. For example, alumina begins to volatilize above 1750°C, and the amount of volatilization increases above 2300°C.
During the electric melting process, 30%-40% of the silica impurities in industrial alumina will be volatilized, and other low-melting impurities such as potassium, sodium, boron and other oxides will be volatilized in a larger proportion.
Activated alumina hollow ball Usage
Alumina hollow ball is a new type of high-temperature heat insulation material. It is obtained by placing industrial alumina with an alumina content of more than 98% in an electric arc furnace for high-temperature melting, and blowing liquid alumina into air pellets with compressed air.
Alumina hollow balls can be made into products of various shapes. The use temperature is 1800 degrees Celsius. The product has high mechanical strength, which is several times that of general lightweight products, and the bulk density is only one-half of corundum products.
