 The main mineral composition of chrome corundum brick is α-Al2O3-Cr2O3 solid solution.The secondary mineral composition is firebrick with a small amount of compound spinel (or without compound spinel) and 1% ~ 30% chromium oxide content.There are two kinds of fused cast chrome corundum brick and sintered chrome corundum brick.In general, chrome corundum brick refers to sintered chrome corundum brick.

At present, the application of chrome corundum brick has a wider range of applications, one is made of metal chrome slag as the main raw material, the product is widely used in zinc smelting electric furnace, volatilization kiln, chrome corundum brick has excellent thermal vibration stability and high temperature creep performance, at the same time in line with the requirements of the national circular economy.

Taking α-Al2O3 as raw material, adding proper amount of chromium oxide powder and fine powder of chrome corundum clinker, after molding, sintering at high temperature.The chromium oxide content of sintered chrome rigid brick is generally lower than that of fused cast chrome corundum brick.It can also be prepared by mud casting method, mixing α-Al2O3 powder and chromium oxide powder evenly, adding degelling agent and organic binder to make thick mud, adding part of chrome corundum clinker at the same time, making bricks by grouting method, and then firing.

Compared with ordinary pure corundum bricks, chrome corundum bricks are synthesized with pure Al2O3 and Cr2O3 as the main raw materials. Compared with ordinary pure corundum bricks, it has better properties, such as refractoriness, softening deformation temperature under load, flexural strength, creep at high temperature, volume stability at high temperature and slag corrosion resistance.
1. Properties of sintered chrome corundum brick
The research and development of chrome corundum began in 1989, and now it has been put into production and widely promoted.The effect of chrome corundum brick is better when used in ultra high temperature gasifier and carbon black reactor, especially when used in the throat of large carbon black reactor, than that of pure corundum brick.In recent years, we have carried on the research to the chromium corundum brick with different contents of Cr2O3, basically proved the influence of Cr2O3 content on the product performance, and determined the role of binders in the product.

2 Application of chrome corundum brick
In recent years, chrome corundum brick is mainly used in ultra-high temperature kilns such as ammonia gasifier and carbon black reactor.In a carbon black plant, the throat pipe of the carbon black reactor was replaced with chrome corundum brick of our hospital. After more than 4 months of use, the furnace was stopped and checked. The inner diameter was kept good, and no melting or cracking phenomenon was found.At present, the service life of furnace lining in this factory can reach 10~15 months.

Design and application of chrome corundum brick

In the design of chrome corundum brick, in theory, the chrome corundum brick can be produced with any proportion of mixture (Al2O3/Cr2O3). However, when the combination of corundum material and Cr2O3 powder is used to produce the chrome corundum brick directly, the amount of Cr2O3 powder is limited.If you need to improve the content of Cr2O3 in the chrome corundum brick, it is necessary to mix Cr2O3 powder with Al2O3 powder for pre-synthesis into Al2O3-Cr2O3 sand (actually is a solid solution of aluminum and chromium), and then Al2O3-Cr2O3 group of particles in the form of ingredients.

However, with the increase of the content of Cr2O3, the thermal shock resistance region of the chrome corundum brick decreases.Therefore, the thermal stress can be released by adding monoclinic ZrO2 to the chrome corundum bricks with high Cr2O3 content, so as to improve the thermal shock resistance stability.
Chromium corundum bricks are usually ceramic bonded and made of high purity matrix bonded by chrome-aluminum solid solution in both forms.The difference between the two is mainly the thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance.The former has poor thermal shock resistance and limited corrosion resistance.The latter has good thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance.
In use, the application of chrome corundum brick is very wide:
1. Used in the steel industry, the service life of chrome corundum material is more than twice that of corundum material, such as ladle breathable brick, etc.The wear resistance and erosion resistance of chrome corundum brick are obviously better than other kinds of brick when used in non-ferrous smelting industry.
2. In the carbon black industry, the service life of chrome corundum bricks used by Guangdong Maoming Carbon Black Factory is twice longer than that of corundum bricks used under the same conditions.The chrome corundum brick has been used in the carbon black reactor in the carbon black plant and its service life has exceeded that of the corundum brick.
3. In the petrochemical industry, the gasifier of large and medium-sized fertilizer plants, due to long-term high temperature (1350~1450℃), high pressure (3.1~8.53MPa), strong reducing atmosphere (CO+H2+CH4) and high airflow speed (about 10m·s-1), has more serious erosion and damage to the furnace lining refractory, so the requirements for the furnace lining refractory are higher.
4, high performance chrome corundum brick density, high strength, more than corundum brick airflow erosion resistance and wear resistance.The introduction of Cr2O3 in corundum brick can change the internal quality of the product, and improve the slag erosion resistance and permeability resistance of the brick. The service life of the gasifier can be extended by using the chrome corundum brick in the gasifier.
