Description: Aescin or escin is a mixture of saponins with anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictor and vasoprotective effects found in Aesculus hippocastanum (the horse chestnut). And it is also athree-terpene compounds, which including Aescin A, B, C, D. and Aescin A and Aescin B are known as escin beta-escin, while Aescin C and Aescin D are called alpha-escin. Aescin is the main active compound in horse chestnut, and is responsible for most of its medicinal properties.High-quality evidence suggests aescin is a safe and effective treatment for chronic venous insufficiency. Horse chestnut seed extract is used and particularly popular in Germany, where it ranks among the most common prescription herbal remedies (after ginkgo biloba and St. John's wort).
