Description:
Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as Asian pigeonwings, bluebellvine, blue pea, butterfly pea, cordofan pea and Darwin pea, is a plant species belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is a typical tropical vine that blooms throughout the year. Clitoria ternatea distributed to Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, Fujian, Hainan, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Guangxi and Guangdong, etc. In Southeast Asia, Clitoria ternatea flower is used as a natural food colouring, Taiwanese also began to use it in cooking meals. In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, it is ascribed various qualities including memory enhancing, nootropic, antistress, anxiolytic, antidepressant, anticonvulsant, tranquilizing, and sedative properties.
Clitoria ternatea is rich in Flavonoid, anthocyanins and phenolic compounds, which can stimulate antioxidant activity and help reduce oxidative stress caused by free radicals.
Researches show that Clitoria ternatea extract contains the peptide with antibacterial activity , which can prevent diseases caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia and Escherichia coli.
Confirmed by clinical trials, Clitoria ternatea has antioxidant effects, contribute to the formation of bone collagen and help maintain skin elasticity.
In addition, Clitoria ternatea has function of anti inflammatory.
