Chromium (Cr): 20% (gives the alloy excellent resistance to oxidation and scaling).
Iron (Fe): Balance (adds to the structural integrity and forms the base of the alloy).
Other Elements: Minor amounts of manganese, silicon, and carbon to improve mechanical properties, formability, and welding characteristics.
Oxidation Resistance: With its chromium content, this alloy forms a protective oxide layer that prevents further degradation from oxidation, even at temperatures up to 1000°C (1832°F).
Thermal Fatigue Resistance: The alloy resists thermal cycling, making it suitable for applications with fluctuating temperatures, such as in furnaces or heating systems.
Moderate Electrical Resistivity: This alloy provides stable electrical resistance at elevated temperatures, making it ideal for use in resistors, heating elements, and temperature sensors.
Stable Resistance: The alloy’s resistive properties are stable even under thermal stress, which is critical for precision heating and electrical components.
Oxidation Resistance: Forms an oxide layer that shields the material from oxidative damage, allowing it to withstand high-temperature environments.
Sulfidation Resistance: Performs well in sulfur-rich atmospheres, making it suitable for applications like industrial furnaces or environments involving gas streams that contain sulfur.
Tensile Strength: The alloy maintains good tensile strength at high temperatures, making it durable under mechanical stress.
Ductility: Although the alloy is strong, it retains sufficient ductility to allow for easy forming into wires, strips, or other shapes.
Weldability: NiCr Alloy Cr20Ni30 can be welded using standard methods such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, ensuring a strong bond with minimal risk of cracking.
